The latest USA Today NFL Power Ranking now has the Packers as the #1 team:

The note that goes along with the Packers reads: “Aaron Rodgers could tie Brett Favre in Super Bowl wins with his first one.” I agree. “Favre Who?”

And while I don’t normally read Bill Simmons because he just writes so damn much, I do pay attention when he ranks Rodgers just behind Brees, Manning, and Brady as QBs he’d want to go to battle with.

But more than anything, I’m just happy there is an alternative to having to watch baseball anymore for the rest of the year. Go Pack.

I know it’s only the preseason, but after watching the Packers preseason game rout against the Colts last night, I can’t help but to be very, very, very, very, very excited about the prospects of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers this season. I’m tempted to add it to my Wahl-Mart and, at the very least, print myself off a shirt for this year. Maybe it’ll catch on like the “Brent” Favre t-shirt and I can make myself a little side biz. I know you want one.

As a Packer fan, I’m actually happy Favre is back. Gives the Packers an opportunity for some sweet, sweet revenge.

We haven’t seen this big of a circle jerk by an athlete ever since Favre gave us the run around two years ago, last year, this year. I bet Brett is happy LeBron is settling this whole matter tonight so that he can spend the rest of the summer throwing footballs to Mississippi High School kids in peace. All of the July-August SportsCenter leads are supposed to be all his…he can’t be happy with all this fake drama LeBron is creating, it’s just so selfish.

Even if you’ve been living under a rock for the last two years, you still have heard about the upcoming free agency decision LeBron James is going to be making. Tonight at 9PM. On ESPN. In an hour long special. That is making a complete mockery of journalism ethics and standards (ESPN has absolutely no shame…or credibility left). And downright cruel to Cleveland fans.

I unfortunately don’t have any inside scoop to offer. LeBron and I have drifted apart over the years and he has blocked my cell phone number. Maybe it’s because he thinks that I too hooked up with his mom?? Who knows…

Anyway, the best I can do is to offer my best prediction. I did pretty well with March Madness. And picking Spain to win the World Cup. And lots of other things that I’m sure I’m forgetting. So you should feel fairly confident in what I’m about to tell you. Treat it as fact.

As best as I can tell, there are four teams that are considered seriously contenders in the LeBron sweepstakes: Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Miami Heat

So, let’s start with his home team, the Cavs:

Why would he stay?: Afraid of getting assassinated by crazed Clevelanders. Having his multi-million dollar home burnt to the ground.

Why would he not stay?: The rosters sucks. He’s tried carrying the team for a number of years now, but they are just too weak to win in the playoffs. Oh, and check out the Cleveland tourism video I posted over a year ago.

Overall chance of landing LeBron: 12%

The Chicago Bulls:

Why would he go?: Major market. Great, young roster. He would be the clear Alpha Dog.

Why would he not go?: Cheap owner. Cold winters, still. Jordan’s shadow — would have to match MJ’s six rings to be considered a success.

Overall chance of landing LeBron: Now that Bosh is in Miami, 11%

The New York Knicks:

Why would he go?: Biggest market in the world. Global icon, blah blah blah. Would actually be able to blend in to NYC better than most places. Would be on national TV for 75+ games a year. He is holding his press conference in Greenwich, CT, so he could actually drive into NYC during the hour-long show. A massive, spontaneous parade would break out. Would be an awesome, completely terrible spectacle.

Why would he not go?: The team sucks. Roster worse than Cleveland anyway. This would be a business/ego move, and not a move to win championships. Sure, they signed Stoudamire, but he’s not THAT good. And he’d have to have a lot of faith they could land CP3 or Carmelo or someone of that ilk next year. I think he wants to win now.

Overall chance of landing LeBron: 10%

The Miami Heat:

Why would he go?: Wade. Bosh. South Beach. South Beach. South Beach. Have you ever been to South Beach? Oh, and Pat Riley is a pretty damn good coach. Could easily win just playing 3 on 5. Who needs good role players??? No state income tax. Probably gets to keep twice the money he would in NYC.

Why wouldn’t he go?: Doesn’t like warm weather. Doesn’t like hot women. Doesn’t like to win. Thinks the oil spill will eventually ruin his beach-front properties.

Overall chance of landing LeBron: Hopefully my math adds up…67%. Evan tells me James “has rented six cabanas at the W Hotel South Beach this weekend to celebrate his team decision, two sources confirm to UsMagazine.com”…and that police are already guarding his Cleveland home from an unruly mob that may form.

But some other Packer perhaps did not learn from Chewy’s mistake. From the Wisconsin State Journal — Packers player investigated after allegation of sexual assaults in Lake Delton:

Seven Green Bay Packers were interviewed Saturday as part of an investigation of two alleged sexual assaults at a rental condominium at Wilderness Resort Golf Cabins in Lake Delton.

Lake Delton police identified six of the players that were interviewed but were not considered suspects in the case. A seventh member of the Packers was also interviewed and released but his involvement is still under investigation by the Lake Delton Police Department. His name was not released.

Police interviewed and released Matt Flynn, Joshua Sitton, Korey Hall, Brad Jones, Clay Matthews and Khalil Jones.

According to information released by the Lake Delton Police Department, at 4:17 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a 911 call after two women reported they had been sexually assaulted. The victims directed officers to the condominium where the alleged sexual assaults took place.

Officers made contact with seven male occupants of the condo and based on initial statements made by the women that more then one person was involved in the alleged assault, officers asked all seven to come to the police department to be interviewed.

The release said all seven men cooperated in the investigation and after the two women were interviewed, six of the men were allowed to leave. Police said the six are not suspected of any criminal activity

Oh, six of seven were released. I wonder which one they detained further. Did we trade for Roethlisberger and I missed it??!?!?!

As long as Aaron Rodgers isn’t in trouble (and he couldn’t be because he walks on water) I don’t really care that much as to who it might be. Though, losing Clay Matthews to an assault or a positive ‘roids test — via association (here and here) — would be a bit of the blow.
