I had this little Christmas light photo shoot competition with my father this weekend inspired by Gizmodo’s weekly challenge.
I submitted our two best photos last night, but only one made it to the website. I’m guessing they chose mine because it’s better, but maybe they just wouldn’t accept two photos from the same email address. [...]

Earlier this week, I mentioned a new weekly photo shoot contest from Gizmodo.com. The theme: Christmas lights.
My parents expressed interest in trying to beat my skillz. A futile effort in my opinion, but being the nice son that I am, I indulged. And now we get to compare results (my mom ended up not participating).
My [...]

Update – Mental Floss has a nice little relevant article: 10 of the Worst Blizzards Ever

When Mike Tomlin, the Steelers head coach, is fired in January, maybe he can get a job as a meteorologist. He said that his team was going to ‘unleash hell’ in December — and has started that off with [...]

A couple of days ago, I made a post about photo competition from Gizmodo. The object was to take a black and white photo of a “gray winter”. They wanted something that felt bleak and depressing.
I took a walk around a small lake near my house, because what’s more bleak and depressing than being in [...]

I tried, unsuccessfully, to get the Baltimore group up to Kohler for a few days before the big Penn State/Northwestern game in Chicago on Halloween. There is the Food and Wine Festival, snow, Hay pyramids, camels, and much more. But apparently that wasn’t enticing enough.
Perhaps, the chance of seeing naked women stealing beef jerky and [...]

Mark it on your calendars. Snow in Kohler on the 10th Day of October. I remember very few years where it’s ever snowed this early. Luckily, nothing is sticking, for now, but it’s still definitely snow flakes.
Oh, and my dad is currently outside in this weather mowing the lawn because he’s a lunatic.

The Mayor of Sheboygan, the ‘large(r)’ town directly bordering Kohler, recently got drunk at a bar. Par for the course in Wisconsin politics. However, this time around, someone, for whatever reason, decided to secretly videotape a conversation with the Mayor. And, for whatever reason, the Mayor starts talking about how his wife’s sister is good [...]

With the holiday season coming up, you need presents for important people in your life. I don’t take any profit off of these, but your spending will help the overall economy rebound quicker, create jobs, and get me out of Kohler sooner. So, please, I beg you, buy a bunch of stuff.
May I suggest [...]

Turns out the Hay Pyramid near my house is actually a hay fort. In addition to looking at this hay fort for the next six weeks, as part of the Harvest Days, I also get to enjoy:
* Giant Pumpkin Contest
* Pumpkin Patch
* Wagon [...]

The last time I took a picture of hay, it was legendary.
Today, on my way to the gym, I happened to have another opportunity to take a picture of hay. While this picture isn’t award-worthy, it is perplexing. Why are they making a hay pyramid about 200 feet from my house? Seriously, I have no [...]
